An artist who painted the Berlin Wall almost every day between 1984 and 1989 has said the next generation must "fight for freedom", ahead of the 25th anniversary of the wall's demolition.
Thierry Noir began creating brightly coloured paintings on the structure while living in Kreuzberg, an isolated part of West Berlin, during the 1980s.
He is now bringing his iconic imagery to central London, where he is painting murals at the German Embassy to mark the landmark anniversary.
The Frenchman said he had been living in Kreuzberg for two years when he decided to begin his artwork.
"After two years of that life, I realised that I (was) getting a little crazy because the wall was a really depressing area, like a melancholic life," he told Sky News.
"So I decided just to do something against the wall and from that day everyone wanted to know: 'Who pays you? Who is the bad guy behind you? Are you manipulated by the French government?'
"It was a taboo at the time, the Berlin Wall was like a death machine and to paint that wall was like a break in the history and everybody wanted to know something about that."
He said he hoped younger people would take notice of his latest creations.
"Now we are just in front of the former GDR (East Germany) embassy, so it's a big symbol to paint inside and outside that embassy, to tell the young generation: 'Do not repeat the mistakes of your parents'," he said.
"It's difficult to explain to somebody who was not born at that time, but when they look to that art, so they can realise that something is strong and the strong thing is freedom and you have to keep the freedom.
"It's not easy and you have to fight for freedom. I try to explain to them that it's not so easy, but I try."
