Police have released dramatic video showing how an off-duty New York State trooper pulled an unconscious man out of a car that had crashed at a gas station.

The accident earlier this month at Mobil Gas Station in White Plains, in the state of New York, injured six people.

The video shows trooper John Vescio pumping gas when a car comes crashing into the station on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

The crash set off a fireball, and Mr Vescio can be seen running away.

But then he returns and drags to safety the driver of a crashed car, 69-year-old Joseph Bucci.

New reports said that Mr Bucci was having a diabetic episode. He was hospitalised at Westchester Medical Center.

The footage from the June 3 accident was released by Westchester County police.
