An FBI agent has been released on bail by a Pakistani court three days after his arrest.
The man, who the US said is a federal agent, had to submit a surety bond of one million rupees ($9,800) for his bail, the court said.
He was arrested at an airport in the southern city of Karachi on Monday after he reportedly attempted to carry ammunition and knives on to a plane bound for Islamabad.
Pakistani police officer Rao Anwaar said officials had found the man also carrying electronic devices that were being examined.
A US law enforcement official identified the man as an FBI agent working in Pakistan as part of an anti-corruption task force.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the agent appears to have made a mistake and there is no indication he purposely tried to board the plane with weapons.
US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Washington was coordinating with Pakistani authorities to resolve the matter.
Pakistani television channels aired footage on Wednesday of police with the American in court.
The arrest marks the latest incident between the two uneasy allies.
The US relies on Pakistan in its fight against al Qaeda and its attempts to stabilise neighbouring Afghanistan, but US drones strikes in the country have angered many Pakistanis.
The unilateral assault that killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad in May 2011 also irked Pakistani government officials.
